We think magnetic phone mounts are usually the most convenient and easiest options for holding a phone in a car, and in our testing, this model provided the best overall experience. In dashboard/windshield mounted versions, the CD hatch or hatches are just as sturdy, easy to set up and carry from car to car, and suitable for many situations. In our tests, the magnets were strong and supported most of our phones vertically or horizontally on even the most uneven terrain. Only the large 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max gave them trouble when held horizontally, though the stands were solid with the 6-inch Pixel 2 XL.
