Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) - This feature allows the user to control up to 15 connected HDMI devices using a single remote control. Most different models of TVs and streaming devices support CEC, but it may be turned off by default. Sometimes manufacturers refer to CEC using their brand name (such as Anynet+ and Viera Link), so it may not be clear if your device supports it.
Audio Return Channel (ARC) - Most TVs are connected to a soundbar or AV receiver using an optical cable. ARC enables the TV to send audio to the sound bar or AV receiver through the same cable that carries the HDMI signal to the TV. In other words, the picture and sound are returned to the TV and the sound is returned to the soundbar (the "return" part). Advantages of ARC include fewer cables, the use of a TV remote control to control volume, and the ability to transmit higher-resolution audio such as Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio to a sound bar or receiver.
