Call of Duty Mobile runs smoothly even on its “high” quality settings, with a smooth frame rate that rarely dips below 40fps. Less demanding but popular games like World of Tanks can be run even on Ultra settings at 60 frames per second.
The most demanding titles (or are they poorly optimized?) require you to dial down the graphics a bit, but with a few tweaks, we ran Fortnite just fine and even played Genshin Impact at 30+ fps. You’re not going to skimp on Xbox performance from this one, but you shouldn’t expect to – no phone in this price range can do that.
Camera and other features
A more subtle upgrade from OPPO’s A76 is the A77’s (dual-lens) camera, which we consider a big plus for those who want to use the phone as a lifestyle product and snap photos whenever the opportunity arises. The new 48-megapixel camera (up from the previous 13-megapixel) also has better light sensitivity, resulting in sharper images in low-light conditions. While this is great for a party or an early evening stroll, it translates into better gaming experiences for titles that use AR technology that combines real-world imagery with game elements. Pokémon Go is a great example of this, and when we compared our previous experience with the game to the A77’s appearance, the difference was like night and day. Granted – this was the previous experience when the game launched on a phone that was a few years old, but it’s nice to see more vibrant visuals as you head out into the world.

The OPPO A77 has a few other features that you might be interested in if you’re looking for a gaming phone, even though we didn’t mention them in our guide. Unlike the A76, this phone supports 5G, which helps when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi especially in games that often connect to the Internet, such as those with online multiplayer. This connection can also help you with streaming, and for that it’s good to know that the glass screen can display vivid colors through the images it offers at a 90Hz refresh rate. It’s good for gaming, but especially if you’re going to watch the series movies – which you can do in HD.
Outside of gaming, NFC (another nice and uncommon feature in this price range) is nice if you’re looking to add a wallet to your phone, and having Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi 5 AC , guarantees many connection options. And Bluetooth may be a bit conventional, but it can also be used in gaming environments – especially if you want to emulate and use your OPPO A77 as a PC or integration console with a gamepad connected to it. It’s a fun scenario, but the phone can certainly do it.

When it comes to value for money in mobile gaming content, the OPPO A77 more than delivers. You won’t get the same performance with a gaming phone that costs three to four times the price, but if you’re a little budget conscious (like us), you’ll find you’re getting a lot.
